Life at school

Found an environment where I can share interests with like-minded people.

Student interview with Eirik Sæten, who is a student at Backpacker/Extreme Sport.

Eirik Sæten is 19 years old, comes from Voss and is a student at Backpacker/Extreme Sport. Here he has found a social environment with like-minded people with the same interests, while at the same time he gets to test and challenge his own limits.

How did you become interested in backpacking/extreme sports?

Throughout my childhood I have explored a number of different sports and activities, and I have always had a passion for movement and challenges. From an early age I was involved in biathlon and cross-country skiing, but eventually I shifted my focus to freeskiing and similar activities during secondary school. Activities that require body control have always played a central role in my life. Testing my own limits and challenging myself has always been a driving force behind my interests.

I have always been social and enjoyed being with people. At the folk college I have found an environment where I can share my interests and joy with other like-minded people.

Folkehøgskolen gives me the opportunity to continue my versatile play. With a wide selection of electives and varied activities, I have the chance to challenge myself in new areas. After Fhs, the plan is to travel and experience as much as possible.

What have you learned at Elverum Folkehøgskule?

I expected to meet a lot of new people and to be in a lot of activity. I was especially looking forward to the trips abroad, surfing and a lot of skiing in the winter. All my expectations have been met. At school I have had many good experiences and memories. Both the activities and the people have made this year particularly good. I have learned a lot about traveling and planning trips. In addition, I have developed technically in surfing, cycling and skiing.

Both my brothers went to Folke høgskule 6 and 8 years ago, and they are still in contact with friends they met there.

I'm only half a year into the school year and I've already met people I've come to really like.
