About the course

Our goal is for you to be able to speak and understand Norwegian according to your own standards. You will learn about Norwegian culture, history, geography and society through exhibitions and by travelling and experiencingNorway first hand. This year will be a nine months long adventure.

Stu­dents in the Nor­we­gian course will have plenty of prac­tice when lear­ning the lan­guage, being sub­mer­ged in a «mini» Nor­we­gian society. They will inte­ract around the clock with other Nor­we­gian stu­dents. There are also many acti­vities wit­hin the school year plan­ned and held by the stu­dents.

By using music, imagination, humor, roleplay, songs, games and dialogues you increase your learning potential. For faster and more joyful learning we emphasize the oral language in class, but offer writing tasks you can do on your free time.

Jotunheimen

Stavanger, Egersund, Lindesnes and Kristiansand

We visit Norway’s largest Stave church in Heddal, drive cross the country and hike up to Preikestolen (the Pulpit rock), where we get the most amazing wiew. We explore Stavanger town and learn about Norways oil history at the Norwegian Oil museum. We visit Lindesnes light house. Last stop on this trip is Kristiansand, where we explore the city and the groundbreaking art museum Kunstsilo.

Copenhagen

We explore the capital city of Denmark in the beginning of December when the city is all dresses up for Christmas. We board the sightseeing canal boat and get a waterfront tour of the city. We visit Rosenborg castle where we learn about its history and get to see the royal family jewels. We climb the outdoor staircase to the top of the tower of «Vor Frelsers Kirke» where we get a fantastic view of the city. A walk in Christiania, the bohemian freetown, is also exiting and special. And of course, we can not visit Copenhagen without experiencing the Christmas decorated Tivoli, where we enjoy all the different rides.

The Lofoten islands and Hurtigruten

In Lofoten we will travel north to chase the northern lights. You will go on «Lofot-fiske» or a sea eagle safari. You will learn about the fishing industry and eat local delicacies. In the Viking museum at Borg you’ll learn viking history and see authentic houses and artifacts. We will visit HenningsværSvolværNusfjord, Ballstad the blacksmith in Sund and the glass artist in Vikten.

We will take Hurtigruten from Svolvær in Lofoten to Trondheim. This is a cruise along the northern Norwegian coastline.

Røros, Trondheim, Molde, Ålesund, Flåm Railway, Gudvangen and Bergen

You will experience the copper mines in Røros. In Trondheim we see the Nidaros Dome, the Rockheim music hall of fame and Tyholttårnet. We continue to Molde, Ålesund, The aquarium «Altanterhavsparken», The Norwegian glacier museum in Lerdal, the Flåm railway to Vatnahalsen, and the viking village in Gudvangen. In Bergen you will see the famous fish market and «Bryggen», Håkonshall and Rosenkranz tower, Fløybanen and «Trollhaugen» – the composer Edvard Grieg’s home.

We have cross country skis, sleeping mats and sleeping bags at school. If you’re missing something, you’ll have time to buy it during the first week of school.
