What do you learn at Elverum Folk High School?

At the folk high school you get time to develop yourself, without pressure from grades.

You can develop something you already love and are good at – or try something completely new. All the experiences you take away will make you a slightly better version of yourself.

According to the Folk High Schools Act, folk high schools must promote

  • General education
  • Popular enlightenment
  • Democracy
  • Human Dignity

Education is a lifelong process and is present in everything we do. When you develop your skills in one of our lines, you will experience professional mastery and belonging. You will be seen, challenged, have to plan, collaborate and think critically.

At the boarding school you learn to live with many different people. We actively work towards community, tolerance and respect – and everyone shares tasks in terms of cleaning, order and routines.

The expertise from the folk high school stays with you for life. No matter what you're going to do after folk high school, it'll be better when you have a little more experience. Know yourself a little better. Have a slightly larger network and have challenged yourself.

Our brain builds neural connections when we move, are creative, sing, and are social. When we try something new – or rehearse.

At the folk high school you get to combine active and creative electives that activate both hemispheres of the brain. There are common subjects that challenge you intellectually, politically, physically and socially. There are student evenings with lots of different activities.

Together with your core subjects and everything you do with the other students, all of these impulses will help build and develop your brain, your personality, and your skills.
