What do you learn at Elverum Folk High School?

At the folk high school you get time to develop yourself, without pressure from grades.

You can immerse yourself in something you already love and are good at – or try something completely new. All the experiences you take away will make you a slightly better version of yourself.

Learning 24/7

Our schedule doesn't stop at 15 pm. We have electives in the afternoons and evenings, study trips with overnight stays, Saturday classes, and social activities.

Through both core subjects, electives and common subjects, you build subject competence. You become better at skiing, painting or playing an instrument. You learn about our democracy, conflicts or sustainability.

The subjects are important tools for experiencing mastery, development and identity – together with safe teachers in a good, social community. But you don't just learn when there is teaching, and folk high schools are much more than just subjects.

You have access to equipment and facilities where you live, 24/7. You can create your own projects, collaborate with others on the course – or with someone from our many other courses. This provides unlimited opportunities even outside of teaching.

At the boarding school you learn to live with many different people. We actively work for community, tolerance and respect – and everyone shares tasks in cleaning, order and routines. The school year will prepare you for an independent life with participation and commitment.

Precious moments

The everyday life we share at school with both subjects, organized activities and social life together provides a unique opportunity to get to know ourselves and others, reflect and philosophize, laugh, cry and experience – lots.

All of these moments, encounters, and experiences provide valuable learning that will build and develop your skills, personality, and competencies for the rest of your life.

No matter what you're going to do after folk high school, it'll be better when you have a little more experience. Know yourself a little better. Have a slightly larger network and have challenged yourself.
