Livet på skolen

Norwegian – Culture/Adventure class visit Kon-Tiki and Fram museum outside Oslo

We learn about Thor Heyerdahl, Roald Amundsen og Fridtjof Nansen.

Kon-Tiki

We visit The Kontiki Museum, where we learn about Thor Heyerdahl. He was a famous experimental archaeologist, writer and adventurer.

He is famous for his  expedition with Kon-Tiki in 1947 when he sailed 8000 km across the Pacific Ocean in a primitive hand built raft from South America to the Tuamotu Islands.

He wanted to prove his theory that Polynesia was colonized by white-skinned “Tiki people” from South America before actual Polynesian people. He made several other voyages to demonstrate the possibility of contact between widely separated ancient peoples.

Polar explorers

This day we also visit Fram museum where we learn about the Norwegian Polar explorers, Fritjof Nansen and Roald Amundsen, their expeditions and the wessels Fram, Gjøa and Maud. We also get to board one of the vessel they used.
