Learn to make ceramics, paint with different techniques and develop your own expression! Together we go out into the world to gain inspiration and experiences.

Do you want to be creative with ceramics?

Pottery You will learn how to make various products in clay. These can be cups, vases, dishes, sculptures – both everyday objects and decorative items.

You will learn the four basic construction techniques; thumb technique, plate technique, sausage technique and sculpture.

You will be involved in the entire creative process – from raw clay in the hand of a finished product you can be proud of. You will learn how to work with clay, build solid structures, process the surface with detail work and add color to the products with begetting, oxides and glazes.

We also delve into important aspects such as drying time, firing and techniques for decorating the clay product. We use two types of white earthenware clay, a coarser type with chamotte that is well suited for slightly larger, powerful works and a finer type without chamotte, which is suitable for more delicate and detailed masterpieces.

The school has a own pottery workshopHere there are work tables, a burning room and tools to explore the possibilities for creating exciting surfaces.

We work with basic techniques in drawing and painting, such as anatomy drawing, composition, shading, perspective, values, landscapes, color theory and the symbolism of images.

We reflect on how colors and the use of symbols affect the image and what makes you like one image better than another. This is your opportunity to explore creativity, master new techniques, raise your skill level and create art.

Learning for life

The curriculum is important, but Elverum Folk High School is much more than just the curriculum. You also have electives in the afternoons and evenings, study trips with overnight stays, Saturday classes, and there is a lot of social happening – both planned and spontaneous.

All of these moments, encounters, and experiences provide valuable learning that will build and develop your skills, personality, and competencies for the rest of your life.

No matter what you're going to do after folk high school, it'll be better when you have a little more experience. Know yourself a little better. Have a slightly larger network and have challenged yourself.
