Student interview about Weird Adventure
Mina and Mikael are two of the students who sit on the student council. Here are their thoughts on the theme week "Rare Eventyr".
What is "Weird Adventure", really?
Rare Adventure is a themed week where we have been divided into seven different groups across lines. We have each drawn our traditional fairy tale and a popular song. We have been given the task of creating a performance of 5-7 minutes (per adventure) which is about the adventure, but the song must also be part of it.
We have been given artistic freedom to do pretty much what we want with it, but we know that the target audience is 1st - 4th graders.
How have you been working, so far?
We got "Askeladden and the good helpers" and our song was "Lifet is lovely" by TIX. We started by simply brainstorming ideas for the group. We took everything that could be fun with us and wrote it down. We tried to make sure that everyone got to say what they wanted and their opinions. Eventually we discussed which roles we needed and which roles we wanted to continue. Then we split into even smaller groups, where the groups worked on one scene for themselves. When we finished it, we put it together into a script.

Comes from: Tønsberg, Vestfold
Duties: Team leader and actor - Plays TIX/Askeladden
In our fairy tale, Askeladden has turned into TIX and the princess ends up marrying another girl instead. Here there will be two queens. We use slang words and have modernized the adventure,
When the script was ready, we split into groups that work outside of acting. Not everyone enjoys being on stage and being an actor and that was taken into account. There are other tasks and roles that must also be filled, such as the document group that documents the whole week, the serving group that makes the week extra enjoyable and the scenography group that makes props for the play, among other things.

We have "The Princess Who Couldn't Stop" and the song we got was "Love Grows" with Edison Lighthouse. We read the whole play as it is originally first, while we translated so that the international students would be familiar with the fairy tale. We sat in a large circle and thought aloud about how we could present the play, which parts we wanted to keep and which we wanted to spruce up and make more fun. Then we decided how we wanted the scenes to be.

Age: 18

Comes from: Askøy, outside Bergen
Tasks: Actor - Plays Princess
We have played a lot with the characters. All the brothers are played by girls, the princess is a boy and the characters are funnier than in the original. Among other things, the king has become both cowardly and rude and likes to bully people.

What are you looking forward to?
I can't wait to learn the acting, have fun and goof around a bit. We create something fun and creative together. I am looking forward to expanding my circle of friends a little, making new friendships and creating an even better sense of unity throughout the school.

I think there are many who get a little outside their comfort zone and get to challenge themselves in a positive way during this week.

I can't wait to see how the other groups have solved the task and to see if the children think it's as much fun as we do. Maybe it will be completely quiet in the hall? But I actually think they're going to like it and think it's really funny.
So I'm really looking forward to the banquet/premiere dinner on Thursday! It will be fun to see that people have decorated themselves and such. It will perhaps be a contrast to how we usually go dressed, which for some of us is sweatpants and swimming shoes, hehe.
