Hintertux, under the sun at 3250 m above sea level
A travelogue from a study trip written by Julie
What can beat an alpine hike in the fall?
We were a really excited bunch who started the journey from school early on a Monday morning, filled with anticipation and a sense of adventure. We had packed lunch from school, but some of us still managed to enjoy a juicy burger and some snacks at the airport before departure. The flight was relatively short — under 2,5 hours — and suddenly we landed in Munich. From here, a 3-hour drive awaited us to idyllic Tux in Austria.

We stayed in two nearby places, just a street apart; a cozy little apartment and a great cabin right below. After arriving, all we had to do was find the nearest pizzeria and enjoy some real cheesy pizza — in my completely subjective, but professional opinion, it was exactly what we needed after a long journey. For the rest of our stay, we gathered for family dinners at the cabin every night, and we actually managed to avoid burns and other disasters — despite the fact that there are almost only boys in the class!

Every day we started early to make the most of the park in Hintertux. The bus left at 09:00, although not everyone made it to the first one – but luckily a new bus arrived just ten minutes later. On the slopes we played around with different elements that suited both beginners and the more experienced. Not all trips were completely painless: On day two, one of the class managed to lose their mobile phone out of their pocket on the last descent, and our teacher almost lost a finger due to a small, almost invisible cut that wouldn’t heal. But fear not – the finger is still intact, and the mobile phone was luckily found the next day, but with a broken screen.

The dinners were carefully planned: tacos, turkey and spaghetti bolognese were on the menu before the trips. On the way home we got food money from the school, and then of course the whole class went together to MacDonalds which was at the other end of the airport, totally deserved, and very good!

We really had a lot of fun, and many of us felt a real sense of accomplishment and excitement. Some of us had a really good time with our glasses, which was really funny afterwards.

We left Hintertux with lots of good memories, and the class feels more and more like a strange family every day, but a family that always has each other's backs.
Thank you so much, Marius, for a fantastic trip!
