Life at school

Norwegian - Culture / Adventure class has quite a semester ahead!

In January we plan to og to Lillehammer and Maihaugen where we will learn about Norwegian history from the Ice-age up till today and visit the site for the Olympic games in 1994. We will go dog sleding, downhill skiing and cross-country skiing in Trysil.

In February we will learn about the artist Edvard Munch and his art and visit the new Munch Museum in Oslo. We will also visit the Kontiki museum and learn about the explorer and hero Thor Heyerdal and his adventures.

We will participate in Elverum Folkhighschoolympics for a whole week where we (among a lot of good stuff) learn a lot about our own limits and what happens when we stretch these a little, companionship, loyalty, team effort and to cheer not only for our team, but also for others.

Our class will go cross-country skiing for a two day trip over Hedmarksvidda.

In March we plan a trip to Tromsø and Lofoten. We hope to see the Northern lights while touring Northern Norway and spot eagles in Trollfjorden. We will participate in the famous «Lofotfiske» in Lofoten and visit a vikinghouse in Borg. We will meet and learn about the Sami peoples history and culture and taste their national meal, Bidos (reindeer). We look forward to travel along the Norwegian coastline from Tromsø to Svolvær in Lofoten and further to Trondheim with the cruiseline «Hurtigruten».

We will learn to make a snowcave and sleep overnight in it.

In April on our last class trip, we will explore sites like Røros, Trondheim, Ålesund, Flom and Bergen.

Do you understand that we are looking forward to this semester or what?
