Norwegian Culture / Adventure in Lillehammer

The Olympic ski jump from 1994 and a time travel on Maihaugen.

Wednesday we are in Lillehammer. We visit Lysgårdsbakkene and are fascinated when we stand on top and look out - and down the ski jump. Here it is steep and far down.

The next stop is Maihaugen. Here, guide and storyteller Thorstein takes us, among other things, to the large farm Bjørnstad from the 1700th century. The farm consists of as many as 27 buildings and was originally in Dare, by Lalmsvatnet in Ottadalen. We get an insight into the everyday life of the people who lived on such a large farm, what work tasks and duties the individual had etc. A fun fact is that it was on this farm that large parts of the film "Three Nuts for Cinderella" were recorded. We also visit an old homestead.

Furthermore, we get a tour of the "House of the Future" which was built in 2001. It was then packed with electronic gadgets - everything to make everyday life easier. We see that the "future" is history today and that the development has been very fast in the last 20 years.

We also got a tour of Queen Sonja's childhood home which is decorated exactly as it was when the then Prince Harald walked on her courtship for many years before they were allowed to get engaged and get married. The last item this day is the exhibition "And slowly our country became our own" where we go through Norway's history from the Ice Age to the present day.
