Canoe rescue and paddle trip for Friluftslivslinja
Camera rescue in canoe
We are preparing next week's canoe expedition with basic paddling and camera rescue. If the canoe overturns on a trip, it is absolutely necessary to be able to save those who end up in the water, as well as to get back into the canoe. After a short demonstration on land, the canoes are launched and the exercise is underway.
A canoe overturns, two people in the water. A floating canoe rushes over and helps the two in the water to empty the canoe of water, as well as get the two safely back into the boat. The entire exercise takes place in deep water without the legs reaching the bottom. This is a fun exercise that makes canoeing much safer.
Learning elements
- Basic paddling technique
- Safety equipment
- Camera training
- Emptying the canoe and getting the canoe launched again
Trout fishing and canoeing in the Femundsmarka area
A week's trip to the mountains requires good planning. Both route selection, equipment list and food purchases must be carefully planned. We are not so bound by the light weight in the pack when we go paddling, so we can enjoy good food. Shelf life of the food is more important.
We know it can be challenging to get trout to bite so late in the season. The area we are in is also heavily trafficked during the summer precisely for those it is possible to meet and get big catches. Cold nights and lovely sunshine don't help us much either. We observe fish in the waters, but they are shy and unwilling to bite.
Canoeing is very easy and we set up a base camp. The mountain pine forest we are in gives us more than enough firewood in the form of broken branches and fallout, as well as fine tyris stumps. Tyri contains large amounts of resin and is perfect for lighting fires.
We paddle between a number of lakes which are linked together by small shallow rivers. The landscape is exciting and mainly consists of pine block land. Fine and ancient pines stand like beautiful sculptures in the field.
