Friluftsliv opens the year with a mountain trip
Glacier
The start-up week is well on its way and it is time for the outdoor life class to go on their first trip to the mountains. Up Bøverdalen to Sognefjellet and Smørstabbreen is the first stage this week. Here we hike around a glacier arm in rope layers. Firstly, we observe that climate change is a fact, the glacier is melting down at a rapid pace. Up at the first glacier fall we find fine formations, cracks and good visible examples of blue ice.
Learning elements
- Walk in rope teams
- Walk with crampons – up, down, sideways
- Using an ice ax - cutting steps, checking possibilities for snow bridges, attaching grips
- General safety on glaciers
- Climate changes
- Quaternary geology
mountain Fishing
A short drive away from camp site Bøverdalen is Jotunheimen National Park. Here in the eastern part we find nice mountain lakes. There are opportunities to find nice mountain trout. The walk from the car to the water only takes half an hour. The north wind doesn't give us much hope, but we have to try. The wind died and the sun appeared. The bright, clear light helps fish gather in the deepest areas beyond our reach with lure rods. Brilliant weather and, after all, a brilliant experience in beautiful nature, we take with us anyway.
Learning elements
- Mount fishing rod
- Fishing knots
- Fishing gear
- Throwing technique
- Fishing technique
- Living areas, lifestyle and diet of trout
Top tour and DNT cabin
We walk from the eastern border of the Jotunheimen National Park and into the DNT cabin Glitterheim. Here we are at the foot of Norway's second highest mountain, Glittertind. We meet other lines from Elverum Folkehøgskole and will have a day's hike to the top of Glittertind.
Good packed lunch consisting of home-baked bread with lots of locally produced toppings. Hot tea or coffee in the thermos, as well as a drinking bottle. Some people prevent sore heels with chafing plasters. Upwards it goes, stone on stone along the marked path. In our pool, everyone manages the challenge of getting to the top and getting a rather spectacular view over much of the mountain home in southern Norway.
Learning elements
- Good preparations with food, clothes and drink
- Walking pattern. 45 minutes active, 15 minutes break
- Check the condition of the mates seine
- Motivate and engage
- Go towards a defined goal
