The pandemic is still a topic, but at folk high school you can be social

After Christmas, new infection records have been set in Norway, and the pandemic is still part of people's everyday lives. But at the folk high school, life goes pretty much as normal.

Since the outbreak of Covid-19 in 2020, we have had a good collaboration with the health authorities in Elverum.

We have had an increased focus on hygiene and cleaning, used bandages outside the school when needed and in periods of major local outbreaks we have adapted with more distance, meals in lines and teaching in line cohorts.

Last school year we started in line cohorts also after each holiday. After Christmas 2022, all students are tested and retested, and we start in cohorts the first days.

Vaccine

Together with the health authorities in Elverum, we have arranged for everyone who wants a vaccine to receive this, and strongly encourages all employees and students to get vaccinated. This will greatly affect the school year and our opportunities positively. After Christmas, students will be offered a refresher dose.

What happens if the infection does not decrease?

We have gained good experience in facilitating a good school day, even with infection in society.

When the school year is underway and we have ruled out infection, we live as normal as a cohort, with line subjects, common subjects, electives, program evenings, meals and a social folk high school life.

If the infection situation makes it impossible to carry out a planned study trip, we will find a good alternative arrangement. We will initially look for a similar destination, but if this is not possible due to the risk of infection or strict requirements for quarantine and testing, we will make the trip domestically.

In the autumn of 2021, almost all study trips went as planned. Only one class had to change destination (from London to Budapest). We see it as probable that we can carry out study trips in the spring of 2022, but that similar adjustments may be necessary.

For 2022/2023, we plan a normal school year, with the study trips listed. But in the same way as this year, we will make the necessary adjustments if necessary.

Folkehøgskole is the best school type, also under korona

Last year, the folk high school students were more satisfied than students at any other school type in Norway. It is especially the well-being of the schools, skilled teachers and the students' personal development that gave this high satisfaction with Norwegian folk high schools.
