Get-to-know-you trip to Glitterheim

We have been to Jotunheimen to walk in the mountains, eat good food, play cards, sit by the fireplace and get to know each other better - as has been the tradition for 30 years!

There is something special about driving into the mountains. We see reindeer along the road - and in the road. Happy cows graze on endless pastures. The mountain sides rise on both sides, and the meltwater trickles down into small streams that meet and grow into a clear, blue river at the bottom of the valley.

Mobile coverage is gone, and we can focus on the here and now - and each other.

The fireplace living room at the DNT cabin is cozy and sparsely lit. There is Yatzy, board games, cards and sing-alongs accompanied by guitar strumming. We are served good food, and when you look into the fireplace there is nothing to reveal that this group were strangers to each other just one week ago.

2454 masl

For many, Glittertind – Norway's second highest mountain at 2454 meters above sea level – is the biggest goal of the trip.

Many reached the top, despite the weather gods doing their best to blow us down.

And those who came up can boast of having done it despite the weather, because it got reasonably messy after a while. So messy that the fog made the trip down a little more difficult than desired.

But everyone comes back safe and sound. The music line plays a lovely acoustic concert, and Africa teacher Geir invites you to the small stone arch, where he tells about mysterious events from the area, in the glow of the fireplace.

"Chill" atmosphere

On day two on the mountain, the students were divided into teams across lines. There were tasks around the cabin, with bathing in the meltwater from the Veo glacier being by far the coldest experience.

We round off with "thank you for the trip", and a juicy photo gallery!
