Encounter with the magic of the north: Art, people and memories
From gallery to mountaintop, from cooking competition to the northern lights – the days in Lofoten made an impression
One of the most special things about Lofoten is the light, and we were spellbound as we sat in the hot tub on our last evening and the Aurora Borealis danced across the sky. Despite a lot of rain, we observed the sea changing color from silver to emerald, the mountains standing like living sculptures against the sky. For us in the art class, this trip was not just a journey, but a few days filled with inspiration, laughter and moments we will never forget.
The days were filled with, among other things, a scraperboard workshop at Galleri Espollin, glass bead shaping at Glasshytta in Kabelvåg, a visit to artists Scott and Vebjørg Thoe who shared their stories and taught us how to build an idea from just black paint, yin yoga, a shared tapas dinner and a road trip in Henningsvær. In addition, the rorbu cabins challenged each other in a cooking competition that could just as easily have been an art project. Lofoten hit us right in the heart – and a little in the stomach.
