A knife is made!

The art class has split birch, and worked out knives, spoons and other kitchen utensils this week.

After a little introduction to the wood's properties and tools, Arild Larsen, the handicraft consultant in Hedmark, showed how to best split, plan and nail different tools in wood.

The students got to try to make things the "old fashioned way" without the use of electric tools.

In a few hours, the birch trunk was turned into butter knives, taco sauce spoons, ladles and magic wands (!) Some were tempted to go over with sandpaper, while others only used a nail knife for the final touches.
