Budapest, baby!

Fotolinja has filled the memory cards in the Hungarian capital!

Budapest has everything you could wish for as a photographer, and the photo line tried to get as much as possible both with and without a camera.

The first evening we looked at the view from the fairytale castle Fisherman's Bastion on the Buda side of the city over to the Pest side with the Parliament and the city stretching out to the horizon. Even here, more people probably started to fall in love with the city, but it was going to get better!

Tour de Budapest

We took part in a walking tour with the local guide Andor, who told us with dry humor and strong empathy about Austria-Hungary, the merger of Buda and Pest, the establishment of the city, world wars, Nazism and communism.

Along the way we saw sculptures and buildings and got tips for restaurants, tourist traps and the public transport system.

Unique location

Budapest is famous for ruin pubs, and Szimpla Kart is the most famous. Here, the students were given a spontaneous portrait task where they had to capture a particular feeling, which resulted in a good collaboration with Musikk-linja and cool photos with the pub's completely unique look as a location.

Stand-up and concert

Budapest gathers people from all over the world, and a select few of these entertained us at a stand-up night in a local nightclub, before we got infectious mood and an intimate gem of a concert from an internationally composed band that played a variety of Brazilian, Spanish and American cover songs.

Photo museums

Budapest has played an important role in the history of photography, with several famous photographer profiles. Perhaps the most famous is Robert Capa, who also has his own museum in the city. We visited this and had a strong encounter with his portfolio of reportage photos - especially from the First World War.

Just across the street is the House of Hungarian Photography, with its studio with natural light and new exhibitions.

High and low

Budapest has an excellent public transport system, but it is still no problem to get your daily 10 steps on a study trip. We have tramped around the whole city in search of lights, bridges, backgrounds and contrasts.

Fortunately, Budapest is also known for its hot spas, so sore feet were treated well in the Széchenyi Thermal Bath.

The world's best press photos

The World press photo exhibition - which collects the world's best press photos from the previous year - was in Budapest at the same time as us. It was a powerful encounter with photography as hard-hitting documentation of the world's conflicts and challenges, but also opportunities and the ability to think anew.

To top it all off, we attended the Budapest Jazz Festival and got a high-quality concert at the Opus Jazz Club.

Now "only" the job of sorting, deleting, editing and finalizing photos and vlogs remains 😅
