10 tips on how to plan an interrail trip

Do you want to go on an interrail, but do not know where to start? Then you can follow this simple guide here!

A trip

Go to Entur's information page about interrail

Here is a lot of good information and useful tips that are nice to know before you order.

Find passport

Find out which interrail pass you want based on the number of days and travel days. My tip is not to travel further every single day, it quickly makes you tired.

Get out…

Remember that you only have one travel day to get out of Norway if you buy Globalpass, and that there is no One Country pass for Norway if you live here.

Buy interrail pass

You can order your ticket at eg:

Reservation

Please note that some sections require seat reservations. This costs extra. If you do not have it, it is possible that you will not get a seat on the train if it is full.

This especially applies to express routes or night trains. Check e.g. the route table to interrail.eu to see which routes require reservation.

Find itinerary

Where can you really go? The following websites are good sources for finding out which train routes are available.

Railplanner app

Download the Railplanner app and plan your itinerary there.

Accommodation

You may want to book accommodation in advance, especially if you are traveling during the holidays. Cheap accommodation can be found at AirBnB, hostels, hostels and campsites.

Packing list

Make a packing list of what you should bring with you mtp the weather, activities and culture in the countries you travel to. Do not bring too much! Most can be bought / rented where you are.

Tip: Wash clothes along the way.

The list below can be used as inspiration.

Do not over-plan

Do not plan the whole trip in detail, some of the best memories occur spontaneously and unexpectedly =)
