Varied weekend in Kasese
Painting, pre-school, bodatur, royal inauguration and international match
Weekend 18-20 October
FRIDAY
After the standard breakfast of watermelon, pineapple, mini bananas, toast and Spanish omelette, it was another trip to our schools. Secondary always has exams, so half joined preschool and Primary before lunch. The others joined a couple of the football boys and painted all the goals in white (2x 11`r, 4 x 7èr, 6 x 5èr and 4 small goals. Two coats of white metal and vipps made the facility look new. Then it was time, more will be -famous time in Kasese- at the market, and early evening it was time for Chicken in the Park. Delicious chicken with fries that is eaten with your hands. Starting to become local now.
SATURDAY:
Walking in Kasese at sunrise is very charming. Some of the girls were there and sensed the rooster crowing, the radio, children who think it's strange to see "Muzungos" on a morning walk, and a full moon setting over the Rwenzori mountains. After breakfast, the gang went on a Boda-boda sightseeing around Kasese before we went to the reinstatement of the King in Rwenzururu Kingdom. King Omusinga lived in exile in the USA until 2003. Then he was removed again and imprisoned before President Museveni realized that the Kingdom was not a threat to the Republic of Uganda. So King Omusinga was ceremoniously reinstated with several 1000 in attendance at the old venerable golf course in Kasese. A great experience for us to feel like we were somewhat honored guests. Was basically only the king who got more cheers than the gang from Elverum!
SUNDAY:
Ready for the big football day with the "women's international" between Kasese, Uganda and Elverum, Norway. And what a fight. After full time it was 0-0 and the same after 5 minutes Golden Goal before we limped to victory on a penalty kick! And we had with us some former students who are down and volunteering to work, Valuable reserves! The victory is celebrated at their home tonight. Self-catering in your own house!
