Rena School and the Congo market

A day of great contrasts

CONGO MARKET

We arrived in Bwera and met Kule Phillip (was at EFHS in 2004) who is the director of Rena School, which Åmot municipality now supports through its Aktiv for Others. We start with a culture shock in Mpondwe on the large border market with the Congo. It is not everyday that a train of young Norwegian students comes through this sea of people. With our regular guide Kabaya, we are guided safely a meter into the Congo for a photo and then around this dignified market where there is a large majority of women - most of them single after the civil war, or victims of abuse. For them, this is actually a small highlight when we arrive smiling and greet "Obakjire" (good day) A little culture bomb!

RENA SCHOOL

After saying goodbye to Kabaya again, we went back to Bwera where both staff and students showed great hospitality, with fruit being served and a big lunch after we had half an hour of charming entertainment from the students. It's wonderful that the Afrikaans team spontaneously contributed with Can't stop the feeling (the opening dance from Aktiv for Andre) Safely back in Kasese, it was ready for the local buffet at the residence Virina Garden
