Home from Lamu
memories of sounds, smells and cultural film gems
Thank you for us Lamu.
Thank you for the hospitality, the fantastic climate and the great flavors. Although we are impressed by large barracudas, schools of dolphins, sea turtles, a stable 27 degrees in the water and a delicious Swahili cuisine, it is the everyday life that fascinates us the most.
A short stroll through the village and voila, you have stored lots of little "film gems": little boys playing with their kufis and girls in their hijabs or al-amira, donkey drinking and 100 kinds of cats (Lamu is called the island of cats), small cafes, local brooms who remove donkey dung in the narrow car-free alleys and offers of henna painting and visiting Maasai from the mainland who try their luck as traders.
It is not easy to describe Shela and Lamu. If you are an introvert, a beach lover but like spaciousness, Shela offers several kilometers of beach all to yourself. We recommend taking a trip there. We can't explain the place!
