Donkey race & Banana house

and village experiences and local "shambaes"

After a regular breakfast of mango, pineapple, fresh juice, local omelette and pancakes, it was time for this year's new activity: Donkey racing! Trial heats, a round-robin and a tough final where local pre-favorite Munibo narrowly won by a small margin ahead of Jasmine.

Later in the afternoon we met Dutch Monika Fauth who in her twenties chose to leave her safe life in Amsterdam, spent over a year backpacking and eventually fell in love with both Lamu and beach boy Banana. An incredible story about their lives from 1997 to the present day. With the construction of 6-7 different "bananahouses" and a Yoga festival that is today mentioned as one of the 10 most important festivals on the planet. And it is easy to fall in love with the very charming young men down here! Basically happens every year. But quite challenging to unite Western culture with Swahili culture. But the two are a story for now with a "happy ending". We also got a great review and explanation of both food and rituals at a large traditional Swahili meal. 4 hours that are difficult to describe - should be experienced.
